Found only in the Dai-Cha river (= Dajiaxi river, Ref. 45563). The only salmon species in the world found as far south as Taiwan. The Ichthyological Society of Taiwan discussed about valid name of Taiwan salmon, and dicided to change its name from Oncorhynchus masou formosanum to Oncorhynchus masou formosanus (J.Lin pers.comm. 11/07). Threatened due to overfishing (Ref. 45563).
